The Under Armour SpeedForm CRM Hybrid review from Muddy Rhino. Under Armour have backed up their rugby kit presence at the 2015 Rugby World Cup with the introduction of some very innovative rugby boot designs. The first of which we will review is the SpeedForm CRM Hybrid which as the name suggests is aimed at the elite backline rugby player looking for speed playing on firm ground.
The Under Armour SpeedForm CRM Hybrid has a very distinctive ‘Articulated Toe Box’. These are a wave of ridges layered across the forefoot. This feature is intended to promote natural foot shape and a perfect mold. On first glance it does bear a resemblance to the my feet and toes. Only time will tell whether it molds to the shape of my foot with increased use.
This is my first encounter with the no sockliner construction employed by the Under Armour SpeedForm CRM Hybrid. That’s right there is no removable insole in these rugby boots. Under Armour say its designed to keep you light, low to the ground and faster than ever. Naturally this feature could be an issue if you wear an insert, and I question its durability compared to an EVA-based insole.
However, improved comfort offered by the memory foam style lining and the absence of collected debris beneath the insole could be a good trade-off. The SpeedForm CRM Hybrid has a seamless ‘Anatomical Molded Heel Cup’ to give a better fit and feel. Wow that is a fancy name for what is a seamless padded area around the heel. But yes, the comfort is improved and I sure didn’t feel any heel slippage during testing. In the first few times wearing I didn’t get any heel blisters.
SpeedForm CRM Hybrid has a traditional 4 (forefoot) + 2 (heel) screw-in stud configuration, with the addition of 3+2 additional moulded studs at front and heel respectively.
Available in black upper and black sole with lime green branding or risk red upper with white sole and white branding.
